250 Heat Races & LCQ Notes

Heat One

  • Christian Craig grabbed the holeshot aboard his GEICO Honda and looked great as he pulled away from the field. Unfortunately, Craig crashed and handed the lead to Joey Savatgy a few laps in.
  • Once into the lead, Savatgy was unchallenged aboard his Monster Energy/Pro Circuit/Kawasaki.
  • Craig remounted in seventh and would eventually qualify in the spot, but he looked a little sloppy as he tried to make up for lost time.
  • Jimmy Savatgy, Jordon Smith, Jimmy DeCotis, Hayden Melross, Kyle Cunningham, Christian Craig and Mitchell Harrison transferred to the main.
  • Alex Martin crashed early in the race with Frenchman Thomas Do and was credited with 19th.
  • Jimmy DeCotis turned in the fastest lap of the race, a 48.279.

Heat Two

  • Colt Nichols holeshot 250 heat race 2 and led for nearly three laps aboard his Cycle Trader/Rock River Yamaha YZ250F.
  • Rockstar Energy Husqvarna’s Zach Osborne started second and stalked Nichols before making the pass for the lead after the whoops. He went on unchallenged to the win.
  • Cooper Webb was mired at the start of his heat race and completed lap one in 10th. A tangle as he was ripping through the field dropped him back to 12th, but he fought back to fourth at the finish.
  • Zach Osborne, Colt Nichols, Mitchell Oldenburg, Cooper Webb, Trevor Reis, Cole Thompson, Chris Alldredge, Scott Champion and Cole Martinez qualified for the main.
  • Cooper Webb set the fastest lap time of 48.886

LCQ

  • Bracken Hall holeshot the LCQ and led much of the race.
  • Chris Howell took over the lead on the third lap on his Husqvarna and earned the win and a spot in the second main of his career.
  • Alex Martin started sixth on his Yamalube/Star Racing/Yamaha and worked up to a close third.
  • Zac Commans earned the final transfer spot into the main in his pro debut.
  • Alex Martin turned the fastest lap of the race at 50.334.

250 Main

  • Jordon Smith grabbed the holeshot ahead of GEICO Honda teammate Jimmy Decotis.
  • Cooper Webb rounded turn one in seventh.
  • Decotis crashed back to 11th on the second lap.
  • Zach Osborne took over the lead on lap five, the same time that Webb moved into third.
  • Webb moved past Smith on the table table section to take over second at the half-way point.
  • On lap 11, Webb dive beneath Osborne to steal the lead. Osborne tried to retaliate in the next turn, but Webb saw it coming and maintained the lead.
  • On the next lap, Osborne lost control in a corner and flipped a 180 off the following jump. He would finish sixth.
  • Savatgy and Smith rounded out the podium.
  • Cooper Webb turned in the fastest lap time of the main event, a 49.360.

250 Heat Races & LCQ Notes

Heat One

  • Zach Osborne made only one pass in the first 250 heat race and it was the one that mattered most. The Rockstar Energy Husqvarna rider dove by Chris Alldredge on the opening lap, and the Monster Energy/Pro Circuit/Kawasaki rider couldn’t counter the move. Osborne won the race by a two second margin.
  • Troy Lee Designs/GoPro/Red Bull/KTM’s Jessy Nelson turned the fastest lap of the first 250 heat, a 1:02.740.
  • Maxime Desprey and Fredrik Noren’s fight for the final transfer spot to the main event went all the way to the finish line. Noren tried to cut Desprey off at the base of the jump, but the Desprey held on to take the spot.
  • Zach Osborne, Chris Alldredge, Jessy Nelson, Alex Martin, Mitchell Oldenburg, Kyle Cunningham, Colt Nichols, Hayden Mellross, and Maxime Desprey transferred to the main event.
  • Total Race Time: 6:10.855 minutes

Heat Two

  • Christian Craig snagged the holeshot in his first Supercross since 2012. The GEICO Honda rider controlled the pace for much of the race. A mistake by Craig in one of the long rhythm allowed the charging Cooper Webb to close in and steal the lead. From there, Webb went unchallenged to the checkered flag.
  • Webb turned the fastest lap of the second 250 heat race, a 1:01.441. Monster Energy/Pro Circuit/Kawasaki’s Joey Savatgy was the only other 250 rider to turn a 1:01 lap in the heat races, a 1:01.985.
  • Cooper Webb, Christian Craig, Joey Savatgy, Jimmy Decotis, Jordon Smith, Cole Thompson, Chris Howell, Kyle Peters, and Trevor Reis transferred to the main event.
  • Total Race Time: 6:05.979 minutes

LCQ

  • Zach Bell led the LCQ until a simple mistake shot him off of the track. The 51Fifty Yamaha rider returned to the course without much issue and was still in transfer position.
  • Yamalube/Star Racing/Yamaha’s Mitchell Harrison won the LCQ. This was his first ever SX event.
  • Mitchell Harrison, Cole Martinez, Zach Bell, and Fredrik Noren transferred to the main event.
  • Total Race Time: 4:15.259 minutes

250 Main Event

  • Jessy Nelson was the first rider to the holeshot stripe and earned a $1000 bonus. He made the most of the clear track and built a massive lead over the field.
  • Cooper Webb started the race in fifth place. The defending 250 West SX champion was clearly the fastest rider on the track, as he went from fifth to second just two laps into the race and then decimated Nelson’s early advantage. A mistake by Nelson in the final five laps helped Webb draw even and then take the lead, which he held to the checkered flag. This was Webb’s seventh career main event win.
  • Zach Osborne spent most of the moto on his own, with the Webb & Nelson battle far ahead while the rest of the field followed behind. He would end up third at the finish.
  • Crashes and other issues had a major effect on the main event finishes of many in the class, namely Christian Craig, Joey Savatgy, Chris Alldredge. The possible podium contenders finished eighteenth, eighth, and twenty-first, respectively.
  • Cooper Webb turned the fastest lap of the race, a 1:01.392.
  • Total Race Time: 15:43.670 minutes
  • Margin of Victory – 6.799 seconds
